Annual show 'horsecapades': alumni homecoming

Saturday, October 19th, 2024 11:00AM MDT (10:30AM Preshow)

Saturday, October 19th, 2024 4:00PM MDT (3:30PM Preshow)

SUNday, October 20th, 2024 2:00PM MDT (1:30PM Preshow)

"Horsecapades" is the primary fundraiser for the Westernaires organization, and happens annually each and every year since the organization's founding 75 years ago.  While character, teamwork and self discipline are an even bigger part of Westernaires than horsemanship, the horses' feed, farrier and veterinary care come at a cost.  Help support the work of generations of Westernaires volunteers endeavoring to equip the leaders of tomorrow.

Please support the cause by purchasing as many tickets as your budget allows.  All tickets are 100% tax deductible.

Don’t care to watch the show? Please support the cause by purchasing donation tickets. All donation tickets are 100% tax deductible.

Alumni homecoming

Alumni, family, and friends: come for the show, then stay to visit, mix, and mingle at the Alumni Association booth on the midway level of the event center. Bid on Silent Auction prizes, or just stop by to chat with old friends. We look forward to seeing you!

If you are an alumna or alumnus (i.e., you graduated from Westernaires, and are in good standing) and you would like to participate in the Alumni Ride act of the show, please see the following options:

“I’d Like to Borrow a Horse to ride in the Alumni Act”

For 2024, no rental horses will be available to alumni. If you can beg, borrow, or steal an owner horse, you may use it.

Please sign up to participate in the Alumni ride act on the sign-up sheet on the table near the paddock. We’ll provide you with a wristband for the weekend. Just a reminder that you must purchase at least one ticket in order to ride in the shows. Click the button above to purchase tickets.

Horses are available to borrow from specific Westernaires teams (i.e., acts that do not occur in close proximity to the Alumni act). Again, only owner horses will be used this year.

Presentable blue jeans (read: no tears or holes), colored jeans, slacks, or other professional-looking attire are acceptable.

If you are riding as an alumni, please be sure to comply with any and all instructions that are given to you by Posse, by Westernaires Volunteers, or by the Barn Staff. Failure to do so could result in expulsion from the grounds. We alumni pride ourselves in being a good example to the kids who are watching us.

Most importantly, have fun!

“I’d Like to Bring my Own Horse”

If you are an alumnus who would like to bring your own horse to Annual Show, there are a few things to know:

Recently Added: 3-Week Temperature Checks. All horses must have a running 3-week temperature documented twice daily (preferable that the temperature is taken at the same time each day). Click here to download a log that we prefer you to use for this tracking. Your horse’s documented temperature must be presented to the Barn Superintendent prior to unloading. Temperature checking should commence on Sunday, October 1st, continuing daily up until the show, then continuing multiple times per day during Saturday, October 19th.

Horses must be trailered home on Saturday night at the conclusion of the afternoon show and can be trailered back out for Sunday’s show.

Upon arrival on Saturday morning before the first show, please stop in at the Barn Office (it’s on the northeast side of the warm-up arena) and check in with the Barn Superintendent. Remember: you MUST present your horse’s 3-week temperature documentation before unloading! You will be reequired to continue your temperature checks while on the premises over the weekend. Please write down your periodic temperature checks during the show day on Saturday.

Stalls are available on a first-come, first served basis. The Barn Superintendent will provide you with a stall and stall card. The stall fees will be approximately $25.00 for the weekend. Please bring your own feed and any necessary supplements and tack that you may require.

Please also create / bring a two stall cards that includes your name, your contact information, and your veterinarian’s contact information. Please place one stall card on the outside door of your stall and one on the dashboard of your vehicle.

Please sign up to participate in the Alumni ride act on the sign-up sheet on the table near the paddock. This table will be operational 1 to 2 hours before each show time. If nobody is there and no signup sheet is present, please come up to the Alumni Booth, midway level of the Event Center at Gate End. We’ll provide you with a wristband for the weekend. Just a reminder that you must purchase at least one ticket in order to ride in the show (one ticket is required for the entire weekend). Click the button above to purchase tickets.

If you are riding as an alumni, please be sure to comply with any and all instructions that are given to you by Posse, by Westernaires volunteers, or by the Barn staff. Failure to do so could result in expulsion from the grounds. We alumni pride ourselves on being a good example to the kids who are watching us.

Presentable blue jeans (read: no tears or holes), colored jeans, slacks, or other professional-looking attire are acceptable.

Anyone who rents a stall will be expected to fully clean the stall after the Sunday show before your departure. Let’s be good stewards in the Westernaires community by cleaning up after ourselves.

Westernaires received silver engraved belt buckles in at Annual Show 1958. The belt buckles were presented by Colorado Governor Stephen McNichols on behalf of movie star Roy Rogers and producer Arthur Rush with their apologies for not being able to make it to the show in person. The belt buckles were given to Westernaires in gratitude for their appearance on "The Dinah Shore Chevy Show from Fort Worth" on February 2nd, 1958.
